Houdini Estate

Los Angeles, CA

Wedding Videography at Houdini Estate

Houdini Estate sits on roughly five hillside acres in Laurel Canyon, built in the early 1900s Edwardian style by Ralph M. Walker, a friend of magician Harry Houdini, who reportedly used the property's deep-water tank to rehearse underwater escapes. The grounds include terraced gardens, caves, hidden tunnels, a waterfall, and a natural spring pond, along with a heated pool, outdoor spa, and fireplaces added for events. The estate is built to host large gatherings, with a stated capacity well beyond most Los Angeles wedding venues, and the layout spreads guests across multiple garden levels rather than one central lawn.

For a wedding videographer, the vertical, terraced layout is the real asset. Moving a couple up through garden levels, past caves and stone walls, toward a canyon view gives a wedding film a sense of journey that a single flat venue cannot replicate, and the waterfall and spring pond offer built-in water elements for portraits without any added set dressing. The estate's history adds a quiet backstory for anyone who wants it, without needing to lean on it for the visuals to work.

Laurel Canyon's hillside setting means real elevation change on the property and canyon-facing light that shifts quickly as the sun drops behind the ridgeline, worth building into a ceremony timeline for anyone set on golden hour. The narrow canyon road access also means guest transportation and parking logistics deserve early planning. Film House Weddings would be honored to film your wedding at Houdini Estate.

Common Questions

Does Film House Weddings film weddings at Houdini Estate?

Film House Weddings would be honored to film your wedding at Houdini Estate in Laurel Canyon. We film throughout Los Angeles and are drawn to properties like this one, where terraced gardens, caves, and a canyon hillside setting give a wedding film a real sense of movement and place.

What makes Houdini Estate special for wedding film?

Houdini Estate's terraced hillside layout in Laurel Canyon moves guests through gardens, caves, and stone walls toward canyon views across multiple levels, rather than a single flat lawn. A waterfall and natural spring pond on the grounds also give a cinematographer built-in water elements for portraits without any added staging.

How much does a luxury wedding videographer cost at Houdini Estate?

Every Film House Weddings package is custom built for the couple, the venue, and the wedding day. Reach out through our Connect page and we will build a proposal tailored to your wedding.

How far in advance should we book?

We recommend 9 to 18 months for peak season (May through October).

What is included in a wedding film package?

We build a custom package for every couple based on your vision and your wedding day. Typically, every client receives a 5 to 7 minute cinematic wedding film and a reel. Our team works directly with your planner and photographer to ensure seamless coverage from getting ready through the last dance.

Do you work with our photographer and wedding planner?

Absolutely. Coordination with your vendor team is a core part of our process. We work directly with your planner and photographer before and during the wedding day to make sure everyone is in sync and no moment is missed.

Do you offer drone videography?

Yes. Drone coverage is available as an add-on, coordinated with local airspace rules and any venue restrictions.

How long until we receive our wedding film?

Delivery timelines are discussed during the proposal stage and depend on the season and edit scope. Expedited delivery is available if you need your film sooner. Let us know during the booking conversation and we will build a timeline that works for you. Final films are delivered digitally via a private link.

Do you provide raw footage?

Raw footage is available on request as an add-on. Most couples do not request it, since our edited cinematic film, reel, and optional full ceremony and speeches edit capture everything that matters. If raw footage is important to you, let us know during the proposal conversation and we will include it in your custom package.

Will you provide a second shooter?

Our standard package is filmed by a two-person team. Additional shooters are available as an add-on.
