Wedding Videography in Siena

Siena is the medieval rival to Florence — a hilltop city of Gothic towers, Palio horse-race passion, and a preserved historic center so complete that the UNESCO World Heritage Site encompasses the entire old city. Where Florence is Renaissance and cosmopolitan, Siena is medieval and fiercely Sienese — organized around its ancient contrade (city wards), ruled by the tower of the Palazzo Pubblico, and centered on the extraordinary Piazza del Campo, the shell-shaped brick piazza that descends in nine segments toward the Palazzo Pubblico's slender Torre del Mangia. There is no other piazza like it in Italy.

Beyond the city walls, the landscape around Siena is Tuscany at its most cinematically perfect: the Chianti Classico wine zone to the north, where cypress-lined gravel roads connect farmhouse estates and medieval castles; the Crete Senesi to the southeast, with its bare clay-hill landscape of surreal, otherworldly beauty; and the Val d'Orcia to the south, one of the most photographed agricultural landscapes on earth, where isolated farmhouses and cypress groves punctuate rolling wheat and vineyard hills beneath enormous Tuscan skies.

Film House Weddings travels from Orange County, California and Portland, Oregon to film destination weddings in Siena and the broader Tuscany region. A Siena wedding places you at the heart of Chianti wine country and within easy reach of the Val d'Orcia — one of the most requested landscape settings in Italian destination wedding photography and cinematography.

Siena Wedding Tips

Avoid Palio Dates: July 2 and August 16

The Palio di Siena horse race — Italy's most intense and ancient civic festival — runs on July 2 and August 16. In the days surrounding the Palio, Siena's hotels are fully booked, traffic is extreme, and the city's emotional energy is entirely focused on the race. Unless attending the Palio is part of your wedding weekend experience, choose dates well clear of these two festivals.

The Crete Senesi in Winter Mist Is Cinematic Gold

The Crete Senesi — the bare clay hill landscape southeast of Siena — is most dramatically beautiful in winter and early spring, when morning mist fills the valleys and isolated farmhouses emerge from a monochrome landscape of extraordinary mood. For couples willing to marry October through March, the Crete Senesi offers cinematic imagery of rare and haunting beauty.

Gravel Road Portraits Are Part of the Visual Language

Cypress-lined gravel roads (strade bianche) winding through Chianti vineyards and wheat fields are among the most requested portrait locations in all of Italian destination wedding photography. Build a 30–45 minute portrait session at a Chianti strade bianche location into your wedding day timeline. The late afternoon light on white gravel, cypress trees, and wheat field hills is unmistakably and irreplaceably Tuscan.

Legal vs. Symbolic Ceremony in Italy

American couples can marry legally in Siena at the Comune di Siena (apostilled documents 3–6 months in advance) or hold a symbolic ceremony at a Chianti estate combined with a legal ceremony at home. The symbolic route is most popular for countryside estate weddings where venue flexibility is paramount.

Siena Wedding Videography FAQ

Do you travel to Siena for weddings?

Yes. Film House Weddings travels internationally for destination weddings. We are based in Orange County, California and Portland, Oregon and film across Italy and Europe. International travel fees apply and are included transparently in your proposal.

How do legal wedding requirements work in Italy for American couples?

American couples can marry legally in Siena by submitting apostilled documents to the Comune di Siena 3–6 months in advance, or they may hold a symbolic ceremony in Italy and complete their legal marriage at home. Your Italian wedding planner will guide you through the right path for your timeline.

How far in advance should we book for a Siena wedding?

We recommend booking 12 to 18 months in advance for Siena and Chianti wedding. Luxury estate venues like Castello di Casole and Borgo Santo Pietro book 18–24 months in advance for prime spring and autumn dates. Reach out as soon as your venue is confirmed.

What is included in a wedding film package?

We build a custom package for every couple based on your vision and your wedding day. Typically, every client receives a 5 to 7 minute cinematic wedding film and a reel. Our team works directly with your planner and photographer to ensure seamless coverage from getting ready through the last dance.

Do you work with our photographer and wedding planner?

Absolutely. Coordination with your vendor team is a core part of our process. We work directly with your planner and photographer before and during the wedding day to make sure everyone is in sync and no moment is missed.

Do you work with Italian local wedding planners?

Yes. Chianti estate logistics, Comune di Siena permit requirements, and the Sienese vendor ecosystem require an experienced local planner. We coordinate closely with your Sienese or Tuscan wedding planner to ensure our cinematography integrates seamlessly into every aspect of your celebration.

Is drone videography available in Siena and the Chianti?

Yes. The Chianti Classico vineyards, Crete Senesi clay hills, and Val d'Orcia countryside are among the most spectacular drone filming landscapes in Italy. Siena's historic center has airspace restrictions, but countryside estate venues are highly accessible. The aerial view of Tuscan cypress groves, vineyard rows, and hilltop castles is a defining element of Chianti wedding cinematography.

How long until we receive our wedding film?

Delivery timelines are discussed during the proposal stage and depend on the season and edit scope. Expedited delivery is available if you need your film sooner — let us know during the booking conversation and we will build a timeline that works for you. Final films are delivered digitally via a private link.

Do you provide raw footage?

Raw footage is available on request as an add-on. Most couples do not request it — our edited cinematic film, reel, and optional full ceremony and speeches edit capture everything that matters. If raw footage is important to you, let us know during the proposal conversation and we will include it in your custom package.

What makes Siena unique for a wedding film?

Siena and the Chianti landscape surrounding it represent Italian destination wedding cinematography at its most archetypal and most beautiful — the shell-shaped Piazza del Campo, cypress-lined strade bianche, stone farmhouse estates in rolling wheat and vineyard hills, medieval tower villages, and the haunting beauty of the Crete Senesi. A Siena wedding film is Tuscany in its fullest, most visually complete expression.
