Wedding Videography in San Juan Islands

The San Juan Islands occupy a singular place in the Pacific Northwest imagination — an archipelago of more than 170 islands scattered across the Salish Sea, where orca pods surface in Haro Strait and bald eagles circle above lavender farms on the plateaus above Friday Harbor. For couples seeking a wedding destination that is genuinely remote without being inaccessible, the San Juans offer something that no mainland venue can replicate.

San Juan Island, Orcas Island, and Lopez each carry their own distinct character. San Juan Island's American and English Camps frame sweeping prairie views above the sea; Orcas Island's Rosario Resort occupies a grand Arts and Crafts mansion on Cascade Bay; and Lopez Island's pastoral farms and cycling culture create an unhurried, deeply peaceful atmosphere that is perfect for intimate celebrations. Lakedale Resort on San Juan Island adds a glamping-meets-luxury dimension that is uniquely Pacific Northwestern.

Film House Weddings is based in Portland, Oregon, and we embrace destination island work. The logistics of a ferry crossing — the salt air, the whale-watch anticipation, the islands emerging from the mist — become part of the film's opening chapter. We coordinate all equipment transport, timing relative to ferry schedules, and accommodation to ensure your wedding day is entirely seamless. The San Juan Islands are one of our favorite places to film.

Why Choose Film House Weddings

Film House Weddings is a luxury wedding cinematography studio founded by Dennis Mulyar, a first-generation Ukrainian American filmmaker with a Bachelor's degree in Film and 15 years of experience across entertainment, beauty, and traditional film festivals. Based in San Juan Islands, our team has filmed hundreds of weddings at venues across the country and beyond. We are not a one-person operation. San Juan Islands Wedding Tips

Book Ferry Reservations for All Vendors

Washington State Ferries require vehicle reservations for peak season sailings, and spots fill weeks in advance. Every vendor driving to your island wedding needs confirmed ferry reservations — make this a priority in your planning timeline and confirm with each vendor directly.

Lavender Season Is Mid-June to Mid-July

If you want Pelindaba Lavender Farm's famous purple rows in full bloom in your film, schedule your date between mid-June and mid-July. Outside this window the farm is still beautiful but the lavender will not be at peak color.

Build a Full Weekend Experience

The San Juan Islands reward couples who embrace the destination. A Friday welcome dinner in Friday Harbor, Saturday celebration, and Sunday brunch with whale watching creates a wedding weekend that your guests will talk about for years. Build your vendor team accordingly.

Evening Light Is Extraordinary

San Juan sunsets — particularly in summer when the sun sets over the Olympic Mountains across Haro Strait — are among the most cinematic we encounter anywhere. Schedule your cocktail hour and portraits to align with the golden hour for breathtaking frames.

San Juan Islands Wedding Videography FAQ

How much does a luxury San Juan Islands wedding videographer cost?

Every Film House Weddings package is custom built for the couple, the venue, and the wedding day. Island destination weddings include travel coordination and logistics in the proposal. Reach out through our Connect page and we will build a tailored proposal for your island celebration.

How do you handle the ferry crossing and island logistics?

We coordinate all ferry reservations, equipment transport, and timing relative to sailing schedules. We book accommodation on the island ahead of your wedding day and arrive with time to spare so there is zero pressure on your day.

How far in advance should we book for a San Juan Islands wedding?

Island venues fill earlier than mainland venues — we recommend booking 12 to 24 months in advance for peak summer dates. Reach out as early as possible and we will confirm availability.

What is included in a wedding film package?

We build a custom package for every couple based on your vision and your wedding day. Typically, every client receives a 5 to 7 minute cinematic wedding film and a reel. Our team works directly with your planner and photographer to ensure seamless coverage from getting ready through the last dance.

Do you work with our photographer and wedding planner?

Absolutely. Coordination with your vendor team is a core part of our process. We work directly with your planner and photographer before and during the wedding day to make sure everyone is in sync and no moment is missed.

Can you film orca whale sightings as part of the wedding film?

If orcas are present during a whale-watching excursion or visible from your venue, absolutely — those are the spontaneous moments we live for. We cannot guarantee wildlife appearances, but we always have our cameras ready for unexpected magic.

Is drone coverage available on the San Juan Islands?

Yes. Aerial coverage over the Salish Sea, island coastlines, and lavender fields creates some of the most breathtaking drone footage we capture. All flights are coordinated with venue permissions and FAA airspace rules well in advance.

How long until we receive our wedding film?

Delivery timelines are discussed during the proposal stage and depend on the season and edit scope. Expedited delivery is available if you need your film sooner — let us know during the booking conversation and we will build a timeline that works for you. Final films are delivered digitally via a private link.

Do you provide raw footage?

Raw footage is available on request as an add-on. Most couples do not request it — our edited cinematic film, reel, and optional full ceremony and speeches edit capture everything that matters. If raw footage is important to you, let us know during the proposal conversation and we will include it in your custom package.

What makes the San Juan Islands a great wedding destination?

The San Juan Islands offer a genuine escape — no airports, no highways, just ferries, whales, lavender, and the most beautiful saltwater light in the Pacific Northwest. A wedding here feels like a true adventure for everyone involved, and the resulting film is unlike anything you could capture on the mainland.
