Wedding Videography in Port Townsend

Port Townsend occupies the northeast corner of the Olympic Peninsula with the confident bearing of a city that once expected to be the major port of the Pacific Northwest. The Victorian-era commercial buildings along Water Street, the bluff-top residential neighborhoods of uptown, and the grand brick storefronts of downtown create an architectural legacy that feels genuinely historic — not a reproduction, but the real thing, preserved by economic circumstance and now celebrated as one of Washington's most remarkable streetscapes.

Fort Worden, the Edwardian-era military reservation at the north edge of town, is the city's crown wedding venue — a sweeping parade ground surrounded by officers' quarters, gun batteries overlooking the Strait of Juan de Fuca, and the celebrated Centrum performing arts facility. The fort's combination of historic gravitas, waterfront setting, and cultural programming creates a wedding atmosphere that is unlike any other venue in Washington State.

Film House Weddings is based in Portland, Oregon, and we love the journey to Port Townsend — the Port Townsend-Coupeville or Kingston-Edmonds ferry, the drive along the Hood Canal with the Olympics on one side and the Sound on the other. The city's Victorian bones, its maritime soul, and the wide light of the Strait make for cinema that is deeply rooted in the specific character of this corner of the Pacific Northwest.

Port Townsend Wedding Tips

Fort Worden Requires Advance Permits

Events at Fort Worden State Park require coordination with Washington State Parks and advance permitting. Begin this process early — the parade grounds and bunker areas have specific rules around event size, sound, and timing.

Victorian Architecture for Portrait Walks

Port Townsend's Water Street and uptown Victorian residential neighborhood are extraordinary portrait walking locations. The ornate facades, iron storefronts, and bluff-top vistas give you multiple distinct backgrounds within a short walk.

Olympic Mountain Light Is East-Facing

The Olympics rise to the west and southwest of Port Townsend. For the most dramatic mountain light, schedule late-afternoon portraits on the west-facing bluffs or beach where the mountains catch the setting sun directly.

The Wooden Boat Festival in September

If you are planning a September wedding, be aware that the Wooden Boat Festival (first weekend of September) brings thousands of visitors to Port Townsend. Accommodation books out city-wide. Plan your guest lodging at least six months in advance for that weekend.

Every Film House Weddings package is custom built for the couple, the venue, and the wedding day. We do not publish flat pricing. Reach out through our Connect page and we will build a proposal tailored to your Port Townsend celebration.

Do you travel to Port Townsend from Portland?

Yes. Film House Weddings is based in Portland, Oregon — approximately three to four hours from Port Townsend depending on ferry timing. We coordinate all logistics including ferry crossings and overnight accommodation. Travel fees are discussed during the proposal stage.

How far in advance should we book for a Port Townsend wedding?

We recommend booking 9 to 18 months in advance. Fort Worden and Manresa Castle have limited event calendars. Reach out early to confirm availability.

What is included in a wedding film package?

We build a custom package for every couple based on your vision and your wedding day. Typically, every client receives a 5 to 7 minute cinematic wedding film and a reel. Our team works directly with your planner and photographer to ensure seamless coverage from getting ready through the last dance.

Do you work with our photographer and wedding planner?

Absolutely. Coordination with your vendor team is a core part of our process. We work directly with your planner and photographer before and during the wedding day to make sure everyone is in sync and no moment is missed.

Have you filmed at Fort Worden?

Yes. Fort Worden is one of Washington's most extraordinary event spaces — the parade ground, the officers' quarters, the gun batteries, the waterfront. We know the light and the logistics of the site and love working there.

Is drone coverage available in Port Townsend?

Yes. Aerial coverage of Fort Worden, the Strait of Juan de Fuca, and the Olympic Peninsula coastline creates breathtaking opening sequences. All flights are coordinated with state park rules and FAA airspace requirements.

How long until we receive our wedding film?

Delivery timelines are discussed during the proposal stage and depend on the season and edit scope. Expedited delivery is available if you need your film sooner — let us know during the booking conversation and we will build a timeline that works for you. Final films are delivered digitally via a private link.

Do you provide raw footage?

Raw footage is available on request as an add-on. Most couples do not request it — our edited cinematic film, reel, and optional full ceremony and speeches edit capture everything that matters. If raw footage is important to you, let us know during the proposal conversation and we will include it in your custom package.

What makes Port Townsend unique as a wedding destination?

Port Townsend is one of a kind — a Victorian seaport that time and circumstance preserved rather than demolished, now home to artists, wooden boat builders, and couples who want their wedding to have genuine historical character and Pacific Northwest soul. There is no other place quite like it.
