Olympia carries a quiet dignity that sets it apart from other Pacific Northwest cities. As Washington's state capital, it is home to grand civic architecture, the domed Capitol building rising above Puget Sound's southernmost reach, and a deeply rooted arts and food culture that belies its modest size. For couples seeking a wedding setting with character and a distinctly Pacific Northwest soul, Olympia delivers in abundance.
The city's waterfront — from Capitol Lake to the working port and its surrounding green spaces — provides a diverse palette of ceremony and reception settings. Tumwater's historic district and craft brewery scene add a relaxed, artisanal energy, while the forested hillsides surrounding the city offer opportunities for intimate garden and woodland ceremonies that feel worlds away from any urban backdrop.
Film House Weddings is based in Portland, Oregon, approximately ninety minutes south of Olympia. We know the Pacific Northwest's seasons, its soft winter light, and the way late spring and early summer transform Thurston County's landscapes into something lush and cinematic. If you are planning a wedding in Olympia or the surrounding region, we would love to be your filmmaking team.
Why Choose Film House Weddings
Film House Weddings is a luxury wedding cinematography studio founded by Dennis Mulyar, a first-generation Ukrainian American filmmaker with a Bachelor's degree in Film and 15 years of experience across entertainment, beauty, and traditional film festivals. Based in Olympia, our team has filmed hundreds of weddings at venues across the country and beyond. We are not a one-person operation. Olympia Wedding Tips
Summer Weekends Book Quickly
Olympia's most popular venues — particularly those with waterfront or garden settings — fill well ahead of peak season. If your date is between June and September, plan to confirm your venue and videographer at least 12 months out.
Capitalize on the Capitol Backdrop
The Washington State Capitol dome is a stunning and unique architectural backdrop for portraits or arrival shots. Coordinate with your photographer and videographer ahead of time to incorporate it into your portrait walk if your venue is downtown.
Spring Brings Stunning Bloom
Late April through early June is when Olympia's gardens, parks, and surrounding forests are at their most lush and vibrant. If a spring wedding appeals to you, this window is especially cinematic and offers softer, more flattering light than the harsher summer sun.
Plan for South Sound Traffic
I-5 through Olympia can back up significantly on weekend afternoons, particularly near the Capitol Way exit. Build buffer time into your vendor and guest transportation plan, especially for late-afternoon ceremony starts.

Olympia Wedding Videography FAQ
How much does a luxury wedding videographer cost in Olympia?
Every Film House Weddings package is custom built for the couple, the venue, and the wedding day — we do not publish flat pricing because no two luxury weddings are the same. Pricing scales with coverage hours, team size, deliverables, and travel. Reach out through our Connect page and we will build a proposal tailored to your Olympia wedding.
Do you travel to Olympia from Portland?
Yes. Film House Weddings is based in Portland, Oregon — approximately 90 minutes from Olympia via I-5. We film regularly throughout Washington State and the South Puget Sound. Travel fees are discussed transparently during the proposal stage.
How far in advance should we book for an Olympia wedding?
We recommend booking 9 to 18 months in advance for peak season dates. Reach out as soon as your date is confirmed and we will check availability for you.
What is included in a wedding film package?
We build a custom package for every couple based on your vision and your wedding day. Typically, every client receives a 5 to 7 minute cinematic wedding film and a reel. Our team works directly with your planner and photographer to ensure seamless coverage from getting ready through the last dance.
Do you work with our photographer and wedding planner?
Absolutely. Coordination with your vendor team is a core part of our process. We work directly with your planner and photographer before and during the wedding day to make sure everyone is in sync and no moment is missed.
What style of wedding films do you create?
Our films are cinematic and editorial — influenced by the pacing and visual language of independent film rather than traditional event videography. We focus on emotion, atmosphere, and story. You can watch samples on our Films page.
Is drone coverage available in Olympia?
Yes. Drone coverage is an available add-on. Capitol Lake, the waterfront, and the forested hills surrounding Olympia offer beautiful aerial perspectives. All drone flights are coordinated with venue and airspace regulations ahead of your wedding day.
How long until we receive our wedding film?
Delivery timelines are discussed during the proposal stage and depend on the season and edit scope. Expedited delivery is available if you need your film sooner — let us know during the booking conversation and we will build a timeline that works for you. Final films are delivered digitally via a private link.
Do you provide raw footage?
Raw footage is available on request as an add-on. Most couples do not request it — our edited cinematic film, reel, and optional full ceremony and speeches edit capture everything that matters. If raw footage is important to you, let us know during the proposal conversation and we will include it in your custom package.
Can you film an intimate Olympia elopement?
Yes. We love elopements and intimate ceremonies as much as large weddings. If you are planning a small celebration at a Capitol Campus overlook, a forest clearing, or a waterfront park, we can build a custom elopement package for you.
