Wedding Videography in Ferndale

Ferndale is one of California's most extraordinary places — a small Victorian dairy village in Humboldt County so perfectly preserved that the entire town is a California Historical Landmark. The grand painted homes along Main Street, built by prosperous 19th-century dairy farmers and nicknamed 'butterfat palaces,' give Ferndale an architectural richness that no other California small town can match.

The setting is equally dramatic. The Eel River delta fans out across a green pastoral plain framed by the Coast Range, while the Lost Coast — the wildest stretch of California shoreline — begins just south of town. The combination of Victorian grandeur, pastoral farmland, and dramatic coastal geography makes Ferndale an extraordinarily cinematic wedding destination.

Film House Weddings brings its full cinematic sensibility to Ferndale, working with the golden pastoral light of the Humboldt County dairy land and the architectural drama of the Victorian village to tell love stories that feel rooted in place, history, and beauty.

Ferndale Wedding Tips

Plan for Remote Travel

Ferndale is 5 to 6 hours from the Bay Area and 7 hours from Los Angeles. Guests will need to plan for overnight stays — build your wedding around a full weekend experience and reserve lodging blocks well in advance for the limited Victorian inn rooms.

Fog and Coastal Weather

Humboldt County weather is notoriously variable. Fog, rain, and bright sunshine can all appear in a single afternoon. Have a solid indoor backup for all outdoor ceremony and reception elements, and brief your photographer and videographer on the weather contingency plan.

Main Street Portraits are Extraordinary

Ferndale's Victorian Main Street is one of the most photogenic streets in California. Schedule time for a portrait walk down Main Street — the painted facades, gas-lamp streetlights, and heritage storefronts create an atmosphere that no other California location can replicate.

Lost Coast Sunset

If time and weather permit, a short drive to the Lost Coast at sunset is worth every minute. The scale of the black-sand beaches and the Pacific horizon creates images and footage of a quality that stops people cold.

Ferndale Wedding Videography FAQ

Do you film weddings in Ferndale and Humboldt County?

Yes. Film House Weddings films throughout Northern California, including Ferndale, Eureka, Fortuna, and Humboldt County. Reach out through our Connect page and we will build a custom proposal for your venue and date.

How much does a wedding videographer cost in Ferndale?

Every package is custom built for the couple, the venue, and the wedding day. Pricing scales with coverage hours, team size, deliverables, and travel. We do not publish flat rates — reach out and we will build a proposal tailored to your celebration.

How far in advance should we book for a Ferndale wedding?

We recommend booking 12 to 18 months in advance. Ferndale has very limited venue and accommodation inventory. That said, we occasionally have last-minute availability — reach out and we will let you know.

What is included in a wedding film package?

We build a custom package for every couple based on your vision and your wedding day. Typically, every client receives a 5 to 7 minute cinematic wedding film and a reel. Our team works directly with your planner and photographer to ensure seamless coverage from getting ready through the last dance.

Do you work with our photographer and wedding planner?

Absolutely. Coordination with your vendor team is a core part of our process. We work directly with your planner and photographer before and during the wedding day to make sure everyone is in sync and no moment is missed.

Have you filmed at Victorian venues in Humboldt County?

We have filmed at venues throughout Northern California. If your specific venue is new to us, we arrive early to scout the light, timing, and flow so everything is prepared before your wedding day.

Do you offer drone coverage in Ferndale?

Yes. Aerial coverage is available as an add-on. The pastoral Humboldt County landscape and Lost Coast coastline are extraordinary from above. We coordinate airspace and venue permissions ahead of your wedding day.

How long until we receive our wedding film?

Delivery timelines are discussed during the proposal stage and depend on the season and edit scope. Expedited delivery is available if you need your film sooner — let us know during the booking conversation and we will build a timeline that works for you. Final films are delivered digitally via a private link.

Do you provide raw footage?

Raw footage is available on request as an add-on. Most couples do not request it — our edited cinematic film, reel, and optional full ceremony and speeches edit capture everything that matters. If raw footage is important to you, let us know during the proposal conversation and we will include it in your custom package.

What makes Ferndale such a special wedding destination?

Ferndale offers something that almost no other California location can — a genuinely intact 19th-century village, surrounded by pastoral farmland, with the wild Lost Coast beginning just outside of town. It is remote enough to feel like an escape and distinctive enough to be unforgettable. Couples who marry here tend to describe it as the best decision they made about their wedding.
