Wedding Videography in Big Island

The Big Island is the most geologically alive place on earth. Active lava flows, black sand beaches, snow-capped Mauna Kea, lush Waipio Valley, and the Kohala Coast's ancient lava fields interrupted by world-class resort properties — no other place on the planet contains this much geological and ecological diversity in a single island. For couples who want their wedding film to look like nothing else, the Big Island delivers.

The Kohala Coast is where most luxury weddings happen — Four Seasons Hualalai, Mauna Lani, and Mauna Kea Beach Hotel all sit along a stretch of coastline where ancient lava meets turquoise Pacific in the most dramatic way imaginable. The contrast of dark volcanic rock and clear blue water, with the resort's tropical gardens as a bridge between the two, creates visual compositions that do not exist anywhere else in the wedding world.

We film throughout the island — from intimate Hilo rainforest ceremonies to Kona coffee farm receptions to Kohala Coast resort celebrations at sunset. The Big Island rewards cinematographers who are willing to move around and engage with what the landscape is doing at any given moment. We have never had a dull frame here.

Big Island Wedding Tips

The lava field contrast is your visual gift

The Kohala Coast's black lava fields meeting resort tropical gardens is a visual contrast that exists nowhere else in the world. Use it intentionally — portrait sessions that move from lava field to garden to beach in the golden hour produce an extraordinary range of visual environments within a single afternoon.

Consider a Mauna Kea summit sunrise for an elopement

The summit of Mauna Kea at 13,796 feet is above the clouds, and sunrise there is genuinely unlike anything on earth. For adventurous couples considering an elopement, a Mauna Kea summit ceremony at sunrise is one of the most extraordinary wedding film settings in existence. Altitude acclimatization planning is required.

Know your microclimate

The Big Island's weather varies dramatically between the dry Kohala Coast, the wet Hilo side, cool upcountry Waimea, and the rainforest near Volcano. Book the right ceremony site for the weather experience you want, and confirm conditions with local contacts in the days before your wedding.

Waipio Valley requires serious planning

Access to Waipio Valley requires a four-wheel drive vehicle and coordination with local guides. Permits may be required for commercial filming. If a remote valley elopement appeals to you, begin the planning conversation early — this is not a last-minute arrangement.

Big Island Wedding Videography FAQ

Do you film destination weddings on the Big Island?

Yes. We film throughout Hawaii's Big Island — Kohala Coast resorts, Kona, Hilo, Waimea, Volcano, and remote locations including Waipio Valley. The island's visual diversity makes it one of our most extraordinary destination markets.

What Big Island venues do you recommend?

Four Seasons Hualalai, Mauna Lani, and Mauna Kea Beach Hotel are the gold standard for Kohala Coast resort weddings. For something more intimate and unconventional, Holualoa Inn and Anna Ranch in Waimea offer beautiful alternatives.

Can you film near the active volcanoes?

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is on the Big Island and active lava flows are a real phenomenon. We can film near the park and capture the extraordinary light from lava glow at dusk. Filming inside restricted areas requires park service coordination. We assess conditions and safety for every Big Island visit.

What is included in a Big Island wedding film package?

We build a custom package for every couple based on your vision and your wedding day. Typically, every client receives a 5 to 7 minute cinematic wedding film and a reel. Our team works directly with your planner and photographer to ensure seamless coverage from getting ready through the last dance.

Do you work with Big Island wedding planners and resort coordinators?

Absolutely. Coordination with your vendor team is a core part of our process. We work directly with your planner and photographer before and during the wedding day to make sure everyone is in sync and no moment is missed.

When is the best time to get married on the Big Island?

The Kohala Coast is reliably dry and sunny year-round, making almost any month excellent for resort weddings. April through June and September through November offer the best shoulder-season pricing. The Hilo and Volcano sides are wetter and better suited to couples who love the rainforest aesthetic.

Do you offer drone coverage on the Big Island?

Yes. The Big Island's lava fields, Kohala Coast, and mountain landscapes are extraordinary from the air. Drone use near Hawaii Volcanoes National Park requires specific permits, which we coordinate in advance. FAA Part 107 compliance is standard for all our aerial work.

How do you handle travel logistics to the Big Island?

We fly into Kona (KOA) for Kohala Coast weddings and Hilo (ITO) for east side celebrations. We travel with our full kit and manage all equipment logistics as part of our standard destination process. No local equipment rental — our own gear produces the results our clients expect.

How long until we receive our wedding film?

Delivery timelines are discussed during the proposal stage and depend on the season and edit scope. Expedited delivery is available if you need your film sooner — let us know during the booking conversation and we will build a timeline that works for you. Final films are delivered digitally via a private link.

Do you provide raw footage?

Raw footage is available on request as an add-on. Most couples do not request it — our edited cinematic film, reel, and optional full ceremony and speeches edit capture everything that matters. If raw footage is important to you, let us know during the proposal conversation and we will include it in your custom package.
