Big Bear Lake is Southern California's beloved year-round mountain resort — a community built around an 11-square-mile alpine lake at 6,752 feet of elevation, flanked by two major ski resorts and surrounded by the San Bernardino National Forest. Unlike many mountain destinations that peak in a single season, Big Bear is genuinely compelling for weddings across all four seasons: summer wildflowers and crystal lake water, autumn aspen gold, winter snow and fireside intimacy, and spring thaw ceremonies with snowpack still visible on the peaks.
The venues around Big Bear range from rustic lakefront lodges and ski resort event spaces to private cabins, forest retreats, and the quieter north shore community of Fawnskin — which offers a more intimate, away-from-crowds mountain experience just minutes from the main drag. Big Bear City and Sugarloaf add additional residential and ranch-style event properties to the mix, giving couples meaningful variety within a compact mountain geography.
Film House Weddings approaches Big Bear as a cinematographer's dream — high-altitude light, dramatic seasonal contrasts, a lake that mirrors the sky, and a setting remote enough that each wedding feels genuinely private. We have filmed in mountain environments throughout Southern California and know how to work with the region's fast-shifting weather, compressed golden hour, and the specific quality of light that exists only above 6,000 feet.

Big Bear Wedding Tips
Match Your Season to Your Vision
Big Bear's four distinct seasons each produce a completely different wedding film. Summer delivers turquoise lake water and wildflowers; fall brings aspen gold and crisp air; winter offers snow-covered pines and cozy interiors; spring has snowmelt drama and blooming meadows. Choose your date based on the visual story you want to tell.
Check Road Conditions in Winter
Big Bear's mountain access roads require chains or four-wheel drive during and after snowfall. Communicate road condition expectations clearly to guests, provide chain rental information, and consider chartering transportation from the valley floor for winter weddings.
Book Gondola Access Early
Snow Summit's gondola offers one of the most unique wedding experiences in Southern California — a summit ceremony with Big Bear Lake spread below. These packages are extremely limited and require advance reservation directly with the resort.
Take Advantage of North Shore Quiet
The Fawnskin side of Big Bear Lake sees a fraction of the tourist traffic of the main village. For couples who want a more secluded mountain feel — and extraordinary morning light on the water — north shore venues offer an excellent alternative to the busier Big Bear Lake Village area.
